Covid-19: surge in Lagos continues as NCDC records 1074

The COVID-19 cases continue to rise as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) recorded new 642 cases in Lagos State and 1074 in Nigeria on new year day.

According to the figure released on the official Twitter account of the centre, new cases were recorded in 15 states which amassed a total cases of 1074 cases with Lagos accounting for almost 60%.

According to NCDC, Lagos State recorded a total of 642 on the first day of the year followed by Kaduna and Rivers State with 92 and 75 cases respectively.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Gombe State both came fourth with 66 cases each.

Other states for the day includes Kano, 35; Ogun, 31; Katsina, 22; Plateau, 20; Abia, 7; Niger, 4; Oyo, 4; Akwa Ibom, 3; Delta 2 and Osun State which has 2 cases.

The total confirmed cases across the country is now 88,587 as at 12:00 on Saturday.

Unfortunately, 5 lives were lost to the virus on new year day bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 1,294.

Fortunately for 660 patients, they were declared free from the virus, something to celebrate together with seeing the new year.
