Canadian PM wants travellers to pay own cost of isolation

Canada is likely to impose new restrictions and law as regards the deadly Coronavirus which may require traveller to self-isolate in a hotel at their own cost.

The country's Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau on Friday said the new imposition which will help to checkmate the new variant of the virus, would help prevent nonessential travelling into the country.

According to Trudeau, the new restrictions will possibly mandate incoming travellers to quarantine in a hotel at their own expenses when they enter Canada.

"No one should be taking a vacation abroad right now. If you’ve still got one planned, cancel it. And don’t book a trip for spring break," Trudeau said.

Although the country already requires travelling to self-isolate in their home for 14 days after showing evidence of testing negative, the suggested measure would require traveller to isolate self in a hotel rather than at home.

The country, which is currently one of the most affected countries with over 730,000 cases, has been putting in place measures to curtail the virus while avoiding the new variant.

The new variant which was first discovered in England is believed to be more deadly and contagious than the other virus of its type.

Supporting the new measure is Dr Andrew Morris, a professor of infectious diseases at the University of Toronto and the medical director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at Sinai-University Health Network, who said he favoured mandating travellers to quarantine in a hotel at their own expense.

According to Morris, the measure would discourage vacations abroad as people would not want to incur cost of quarantining in a hotel.
