COVID-19: Mexican president becomes a victim

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador of Mexico on Sunday becomes the latest Covid-19 high profile victims.

The president who expressed optimism revealed on Sunday that he has tested positive for the virus, but that his symptoms were mild.

Obrador revealed this in a Twitter post on sunday when he tweeted, "I regret to inform you that I am infected with COVID-19. The symptoms are mild, but I am already undergoing medical treatment.

"As always, I am optimistic. We will come through this together."

He has now become one of the world's head of state to have contracted the disease joining the likes of former U.S' president, Donald Trump and Brazil's Jair Bolsonaro .

The country which has recorded over 450,000 confirmed cases and over 21,000 Covid-19 related deaths, is currently battling a surge in the number of cases across the country.

Many have blamed him for the country's current medical condition, as he was reluctant to impose nationwide lockdown to curtail the spread of the pandemic.
