Nigeria records new 1,133 Covid-19 cases, cases hits 80k

Nigeria on Wednesday recorded 1,133 new Covid-19 cases as the total confirmed cases in the country hit 80,922 mark, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control( NCDC) has reported.

The country which is confirmed to be in the second wave of the virus continues to experience a surge in the outbreak of the virus amid fear of possible lockdown.

On Wednesday, 397 cases were recorded in Lagos State followed by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with 357 cases and Kaduna and Plateau State with 83 and 61 with cases respectively.

Others states where the new cases were recorded for the day include Katsina, 46; Sokoto, 32; Oyo, 28; Ogun, 21; Kano,19; Rivers, 18; Osun,13 Edo, 12; Niger, 12; Bayelsa, 11; Borno, 11; Bauchi, 8; Jigawa, 2 and Ondo with 2 cases.

This new confirmed cases of 1,133 means the country has more 134 cases than the previous day when 999 cases was recorded; a sign that the trend is not going down in the country.

Lagos State still remains the hotspot with 27,488 cases - 33.9% of the country's total- followed by Abuja which has 10,479 confirmed cases.

Five Covid-19 related deaths were recorded on Wednesday bringing the total number of people who have lost their lives to the virus to 1236.

However, on Wednesday, 395 people recovered from the disease bringing the total number of discharged cases in the country to 69,274 and the total number of people currently with the virus to 10,412.
