Causes of pot belly

Pot belly is a kind of Obesity in which the size of the stomach increase than other part of the body, your body may not witness increase in size but the stomach keeps accumulating fats.

Most factors that contributes to pot belly are most of the factor that are responsible for obesity which includes alcohol, beer, lack of exercise, eating late before going to bed and surprisingly, excess reading without break.

Alcohol: Excess alcohol like beer and dry-gin have been confirmed to contribute to pot belly as against the crude belief that dry-gin which is locally known as 'hots' burns fats. Apart from the effect of dry-gin on stomach, it is also proven to damage the kidney and liver.

Sugary drinks: This is one of the most consumed drinks among the youths and mostly children because of its sweetness and flavour.

However, wine and water are the only two drinks confirmed not cause potbelly.

Carbohydrates: Carbohydrates are nutrients in food that gives energy which is required in large quantities for body's daily activities. However, carbohydrates is divided into two; those which are less harmful, called simple carbohydrate including fructose, glucose, and lactose, which are found in whole fruits, vegetables and grains, the harmful one is called complex carbohydrates (or starches) which are found in foods such as starchy vegetables, whole grains, rice, white breads.

Excess consumption of the second type of carbohydrates causes accumulation of excess fats in the stomach wall which eventually lead to potbelly.

Constantly going hungry:  When you often go hungry, the stomach produces fats in order to have something to feed on. It also produces Cortisol hormone which causes fats in the stomach.

Heredity: It should not be surprising that you're likely to have pot belly if you have history of potbelly from one generation to another. However, the chance is low if you stay away from other factors likely to cause potbelly and adhere healthy lifestyle.

Lack of exercise: Lack of exercise or inactive could cause potbelly. Research has shown that when body nutrients is not equated by the amount of work done, the unused nutrient could cause body fat, thereby leading to obesity and potbelly. This could be cause by excess watching of TV , reading without schedule and using of computer almost every time.

Eating late in the night: It has been proven that their should be at least 2hours gap between the time of eating in the night and when one sleeps, especially for food like beans, yam among others

Always try to engage in on or two movement activities that keep your body, including joints active and burns excess fat.

Eating of natural and rich-in-minerals food like Vegetables and fruit, and eating of food at the right time has been the major recommendation of health living and against potbelly.
