This is an urinary tract infection that affects the kidney if not properly treatment.

It can be life-threatening and can cause permanent kidney damage.
It usually manfests in the urethra or bladder and makes its way to the kidneys if not treated with seriousness.
Pyelonephritis is caused by bacteria or a virus that infects the kidneys.
Bacterial or viral infections can migrate to the kidneys from the bladder, or carried to the kidneys from other parts of the body through the bloodstream.
The Inflammation of the urinary bladder is not pyelonephritis but cystitis.
According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, no diet and nutrition have been linked to a person's risk for pyelonephritis.
Its symptoms depend on age and other factors.
For instance, children under 2 may only have a high fever, while the elderly may experience confusion, lethargy, speech issues, or hallucinations.
The common signs varies from Fever;vomiting;pain in the back, side, groin, and abdomen;chills;nausea;strong urge to urinate often;pain or burning sensation while urinating;urine that contains pus or blood and  foul-smelling or cloudy urine.
Don't hesitate to contact your doctor if you experience any of the above symptoms, and as a treated patients of urinary tract infections.
Its treatment is a little bit tasking but can be easy if early detected.
Your doctor will determine the type of bacteria causing your pyelonephritis by sending a sample of your urine to a lab.
While waiting for the results, your doctor will probably prescribe antibiotics that ward off the most common types of bacteria. Once the exact type of bacteria is known, your doctor may change the antibiotic if needed.
Although, antibiotics can clear up the symptoms of a kidney infection within a few days, you may need to continue taking them for up to several weeks.
Once you're done taking the antibiotics, your doctor may test your urine again to make sure the infection hasn't come back.
Patient can be hospitalise if the problem has gone beyond mere medication.
This may require treatments intravenously,a mean whereby antibiotics is given to patients through the vein.
Patient with a serious and frequent kidney infections may need to see a kidney specialist (called a nephrologist) or a urinary surgeon (urologist).
These specialists can determine if abnormalities in your urinary tract may be the cause of your infections.
