US Former Secretary of state Colin Powel dies from COVID-19 complications

The United State of American has lost one of its Former Secretary of State, Colins Powel to COVID-19 disease, NBC News reports.

His family announced today in a statement on facebook that the first Black Secretary of state died on Monday due to complications from COVID-19.

According to his family, Powel who was 84 years until his death was fully vaccinated and had been receiving treatment at Walter Reed National Medical Centre.

The statement reads:

"General Colin L. Powel, former U.S. Secretary of State and Chairman of the joint Chiefs of Staff, passed away this morning due to complications from Covid 19. He was fully vaccinated.

"We want to thank the medical staff at walter Reed National Medical Centre for their caring treatment. We have lost a remarkable and loving husband, father, grandfather and a great American."

The United State remains the world most hit nation by the Covid-19 pandemic: accounting for over 45,792,532 cases of the world's 241,578,433 total cases and over 15% of global death cases arising from the disease.

Powel, a former four-star general and latest high profile victim of the deadly disease, was the country's 65th Secretary of State from 2001 and 2005. 

Until Barrack Obama's emergence as the President in 2008, Colin Powel and his successor Condolleeza Rice were the highest-ranking African-Americans in the history of the United of American Federal Executive branch.
