NAFDAC raises alarm over counterfeit Augmentin in circulation

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control, NAFDAC, has raised alarm over a counterfeit antibacterial drug in circulation.


This counterfeit drug, Augmentin 625mg is reported to have been produced and distributed from Onitsha, the business hub of Anambra State, Nigeria.

The details of the fake medical and means of identification are given below;

Product Name: Augmentin 625mg. 

Batch No.: 562626 

Manufacturing date: April 2021.

Expiry date: April 2024. 

Nafdac Reg No: 04-1928. 

Labelling Lapses: 

The product failed short of the following labeling requirements. 

•No inscription of manufactured by written on the label, only the address. 

•Manufacturing and Expiry dates don't meet the acceptable format. 

•No MAS scratch number for verification. 

•The logo "gsk" is not properly positioned as on the original. 

The above information makes the drug suspected as counterfeit. 

You are hereby requested to inform your members to be vigilant and report any Substandard Augmentine 625mg in their inventory to the nearest NAFDAC office or call 08001623322 /send email to sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng.
