Foods which enliven the brain

Proper functionability of the brain depends on various factors such as foods, lifestyle and passage of time (age). Among most of the factors, it is aging that is known to be natural and beyond human control. Other factor, especially foods and lifestyles are easily controllable factors and which can damage or boost the brain efficiency when the wrong or right choice is made respectively.

The following are few among many foods that help the brain to function properly and to retain its memory capability:

Beets


Although this is not a common food among people especially those in Africa, but if you can get you hand on this root vegetable - which is rich in vitamin B, fiber, manganese, potassium, iron, and vitamin C - you can be assured of optimum function of the brain. Vitamin B helps improve memory, and may even serve as a kind of natural antidepressant for many people. The best option is to buy them fresh, but if you must buy them prepared, it is probably best to stick with the brands that are packed in jars, since cans are often lined with potentially harmful chemicals.

Coffee


While coffee is prefer to some other tea, some hates it for its ability to slim down its consumers' body sizes. However, research has shown that coffee can be of great benefits to the brain. Research suggests that the amount of caffeine found in a cup of coffee – about 80 milligrams – is just enough to improve brain function, including short and long-term memory. Coffee may be particularly beneficial for the elderly to reduce cognitive problems.

Hot pepper


This is no teaser as it is believed that the substance, capsasaicin, that makes peppers hot is known to have beneficial effects on the brain. It turns out the brain has numerous receptors for capsaicin, and when the brain is exposed to it, it helps to calm the nerves and improve the ability to focus.

Coconut oil


This remain one of the most used oil for various purposes ranging from hair to body cream. Apart from it benefits to hair and the skin, the triglycerides or MCTs have been proven to enliven brain memory. Studies have even shown that coconut oil can benefit Alzheimer’s patients by improving their memory almost immediately. Although the word “oil” often makes people think of foods that are likely to cause them to gain weight, the opposite is true in this case. The MCTs found in coconut oil actually help reduce belly fat.

Walnut


Walnut is highly consumed in Nigeria because of its ability to boost fertility in men and its antioxidants content which helps to reduce cancer. It also contain brain-boosting omega-3 fatty acids, and may even be able to reverse some cognitive damage that is already been done. 

Eggs


Egg is every household meals either cooked or fried. Although many people are wary of its cholesterol-filled york, this cholesterol is what impacts the brain positively, as the brain is said to be made of cholesterol. Eggs are another food that contains omega-3 fatty acids and are regarded by some as the ideal brain food. This is better harnessed in favour of the brain when boiled.
