Greece to punish those over 60's that refuse COVID-19 vaccine

Greece to make COVID-19 vaccination compulsory for those over the age of 60 with fine to be paid by defaulters.

According to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, fine of €100 (£85) will be imposed at monthly intervals from mid-January on those who refuse to take a shot.

The proceeds will be used to support the country's overwhelmed health system which has been struggling to curtail the surge.

About 63% of Greece's 11-million population is fully vaccinated, but data show more than 520,000 people over 60 are yet to get the jab.

Although Mr Mitsotakis claimed that it was a hard decision, it is inevitable to take such step for the benefit of all.

With over 18,000 lives claimed by the disease, the country will be the first to aim a measure at a specific age group.
