Cholera death toll hits 60 in FCT, Nigeria.

Cholera related death in the Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria, hit 60 from 54 as the confirmed cases of the disease reaches 698.

Dr Ramatu Aliyu, who is the chairman of the region, made the disclosed this at the continuation of sensitisation on cholera and other acute diseases in Pyakasa and Gwagwa communities in Abuja on Thursday.

According to the chairman who was represented by Dr Iwot Ndaeyo, the acting Executive Secretary of FCT Primary Health Care Board, the disease rose by 94 cases within 72 hours.

Giving the details in numbers, Dr Iwot Ndaeyo said while Abuja Municipal Area Council recorded 281 suspected cases with 22 deaths, Bwari Area Council recorded 134 suspected cases with 22 deaths.

Also, Gwagwalada Area Council, 220 suspected cases with nine deaths were recorded, Kuje Area Council had 23 suspected cases with four deaths and Kwali Area Council recorded 37 suspected cases with three deaths.

Consequently, the chairman reiterated their committed to intensify community sensitisation on cholera outbreak.

She urged FCT residents and critical stakeholders to publicise the message of cholera prevention, proper sanitation with the practice of hand hygiene in their respective communities.
