Worldwide Covid-19 deaths toll reaches 2 million

The worldwide Covid-19 related death toll has now reached 2 million mark.

The landmark was reached on Friday amid a vaccine roll-out so immense but so uneven that in some countries there is real hope of vanquishing the outbreak, while in other parts of the world, it seems a far-off dream.

While the virus has slowed down in some region like China and Italy, many continue to witness a surge in the cases of the deadly virus. Some countries are even battling a new variant of the virus.

According to data from John Hopkins University, over 93 million cases of the virus have been confirmed worldwide with 2.1 million Covid related death recorded so far as at Friday 15, January 2021.

The United States of America remains the most hit nation both in term of confirmed cases and deaths toll, with 393,0000 death recorded in the country.

Brasil is the second nation with most Covid-19 death of with 208,291 death despite recording more than a million fewer cases than India which  comes third in the deaths tally with 152,130.

In Africa, South-Africa which is the epicentre has over thirty-six thousand covid related deaths which is followed by Egypt which has over eight thousand deaths.

Tunisia has over five thousand covid related death putting the country in third place in Africa.

America remains the most affected continent with 40,548,449 followed by Europe where 30,080,083 cases were recorded. Western Pacific and Africa remain the least affected area with 1,240,368 and 2,265,899 respectively.
