Three Chinese cities declared Covid-19 free

Three Chinese cities of Shanghai, Guangzhou and Qingdao have become one of the latest in the country to announce that local COVID-19 patients have all been discharged from hospital upon recovery as of Saturday, according to reports local authorities on Sunday.

According to Shanghai health authorities, 342 of 349 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases in the city have been discharged leaving no one currently hospitalised after seven death had been recorded.

Apart from Shanghai, other regions including Central China's Hubei Province, East China's Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui provinces, Northwest China's Shaanxi Province all have no local patients hospitalised as of Saturday, based on the daily reports released by their respective health authorities.

In November, Zhang Wenhong, China's leading infectious disease specialist and head of the Shanghai COVID-19 medical team, wrote on Sina Weibo - China's Twitter-like social media - that sporadic cases won't affect normal operations in China. 

Zhang noted that China will have to face a likely increased risk of imported cases as more countries may relax border controls.

National Health Commission on Sunday said 395 patients still receiving treatment in the country.
