Nigeria records 1,270 new Covid-19 cases, global cases near 100m

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced that new 1,270 Covid-19 cases were discovered on Tuesday, as global cases near 100 million.

According to the agency, 435 new cases were recorded in Lagos on Tuesday, while the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) accounted for 234 new cases.

Other states include Oyo, 103; Plateau, 86; Rivers, 71; Enugu, 51; Nasarawa, 41; Delta, 39; Edo, 39; Osun, 33; Niger, 31; Sokoto 18; Ondo, 17; Taraba, 13; Ebonyi, 12; Kano, 10; Abia, 9; Bayelsa 8; Bauchi, 7; Imo 5; Katsina, 3 and Gombe with a single case.

The total cases across the country now stands at 102,601 with total death related cases now 1,373 after 12 deaths were recorded on Tuesday.

The same day, 1,085 patients were discharged from isolation centres across the country after testing negative to the virus, making it 81,574 people to have been discharged since the first case in Nigeria in February last year.

With almost all countries of the world being hit by the virus, the worldwide cases now reach 91,605,941 with total 1,962,345 Covid-19 ralated deaths recorded so far.

However, over 50 million patients have been discharged from the virus worldwide.

The U.S remains the most hit nation with 22.9 million confirmed cases followed by India and Brazil with 10.5 million and 8.2 million cases respectively.

In Africa, South Africa remains the most affected with 1.26 million which is followed by Egypt and Nigeria with 156,000 and 102,601 respectively.
