COVID-19: Nigeria records 964 new cases as worldwide cases leaps toward 100 million

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has announced new 965 covid cases, as the global confirmed cases approach 100 million milestone.

The NCDC announced on its official Twitter handle, the new cases of 964 recorded across all states of the federation on Sunday, 24 January, 2021.

The 964 recorded means the country has a daily record below 1000 for the first since almost two weeks ago having had series of daily cases above 1,100 in the from the beginning of this year.

Lagos State which remains the epicentre in the country, yesterday recorded 360 cases, while the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) recorded 88 cases.

Ogun State, Imo, Kaduna and Plateau recorded 73, 72, 67 and 57 respectively.

Other states includes Abia, 41; Osun, 41; Rivers, 32; Kano, 26; Niger, 24; Benue, 23; Edo, 20; Cross River, 2; Akwa Ibom, 8; Nasarawa, 6; Zamfara, 6; Ekiti 6 and Jigawa with 4 cases.

The total confirmed cases in the country now stands at 121,566, as total cases for each state are given below:


However, 1,327 people were discharged from Isolation centres yesterday, having tested negative to the virus making it 97,228 to have been discharged since the virus was imported to the country.

The deaths toll remains 1,504 after 2 persons were lost to the virus on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the global cases according to Data from John Hopkins University is now 99,192,353 as the cases leaps toward 100 million mark while the deaths toll is 2,129,403, despite the commencement of vaccines administration across many countries of the world. 54.6 million people have been discharged globally.

The U.S remains the epicentre with 25,124,948 confirmed cases and 419,208 deaths. 

In Africa, South-Africa has remained the hotspot for the disease ahead of Tunisia and Egypt.
