Brazil struggles with oxygen as covid second variant bites hard

Brazilian scientists are working hard to understand the new variant of the deadly Coronavirus which was discovered in the Amazon.

Also, the country's doctors in the rainforest’s biggest city Manaus are struggling to control the rising numbers of Covid-19 related deaths and soaring cases, as the country battles the second wave of the virus.

Brazil which is the third most affected country has world most Covid-19 related deaths only behind the United States of America which is the epicentre of the disease.

With over 2 million deaths recorded worldwide, Brazil which accounts for more than 10 percent of the figure has started rolling out vaccines to its people

However, its fight against the virus has been frustrated by breakdown in the country's health system with shortage in oxygen reported in some areas.

Manaus residents are lamenting lack of oxygen which is due to the rise in Covid-19 cases, overwhelming the heath facilities available in the area.

According to some residents who spoke with BBC, the situation is like a time bomb which is detonated and a wildfire going beyond control.

The country's battles against the virus seems far from over, especially at the Amazon.
