WHO,UN,world powers except the US partner to accelerate work on vaccine.

 The world Health Organisation(WHO) is working in partnership with the United
Nation to speed up the vaccine to battle the COVID-19, according to the organisation's chief  Tedros Arhanom Ghebreyesus.

According to the chief,the world 'needs tools fast' to combat coronavirus as the number of deaths in the US rises to nearly 50,000 and 300,000 worldwide.

The agency is partnering with group to accelerate work on drugs and a vaccine for COVID-19,the disease caused by the coronavirus,noting that"the world needs these tools and needs them fast".

 The disease which first started in Wuhan city of china in December 2019 has spread to almost all countries of the world leading to the closure of schools,factories,business government agencies ,sportings activities and the likes in other to curb the spread seems not ending soon.

The chiefs state that ridding the world of coronavirus will require the biggest public health effort ever seen.

"We face a  global public enemy like no other,"Antonio Guteres told a virtual briefing,insisting that "a world free of COVID-19 requires the most massive public health effort in history".

WHO chief Tedros Arhanom Ghebreyesus said the agency is partnering with world leaders and the private sector to accelerate work on drugss and a vaccine for COVID-19.

"This is a landmark collaboration to accelerate the development,productio pand equitable distribution of vaccines, diagnostics,and therapeutics for COVID-19,"Ghebreyesus told a virtual briefing.

"Our shared commitment is to ensure all people have access to all the tools to defeat COVID-19,"he said.

"The world needs these tools and need them fast,"he added."We are faceing a common threat which we can only defeat with a common approach." He said.

Meanwhile,the US will not take part in the launching of a global initiative on Friday to speed the development,preduction and distribution of drugs and vaccine against COVID-19,a spokesman for the US mission in Geneva told Reuters news agency.

"There will be no U.S. official participation",he said in an email reply to a query."We look forward to learning more about this initiative in support of international cooperation to develop a vaccine for COVD-19 as soon as possible."

US president Donald Trump has annoibann a suspebssus of funding to the WHO, where it is the largest donor.French president Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel will help launch the global initiative on friday.
