China reports covid-19 related death since Jan 25

China has on Saturday reported its first Covid-19 related casualties after more that a year since its last reported case.


According to a post on the website of the country's National Health Commission, two people Friday died of covid-19 in the northeastern region Jilin.

This is coming after almost 14 months since the country reported the last casualty on January 25, Last year.

The latest region affected, Jilin, borders North Korea and Russia and account for more than one-third of domestic infection in the current wave.

According to a senior official who spoke with reporters, while the death of the two deceased was related to underlying health issues, one was not vaccinated.

China, the country where covid-19 was first discovered has seen a drastic drop in the numbers of reported cases across the country with the latest deaths bringing the total 4,638.
