COVID-19: New 1,588 cases recorded on Saturday in Nigeria

1,588 new Covid-19 cases was on Saturday 6, February, 2021 recorded in Nigeria, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced.

According to the centre which made the disclosure on its official Twitter account, 535 cases were recorded in Lagos State, as the state continues to battle the second wave of the virus.

The virus continues to rise rapidly in Anambra as the country's most affected south-east State recorded 218 yesterday.

Also, Oyo State recorded 155 cases on Saturday to remain the most affected state in southwest just behind Lagos State which remains the country's most affected area.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) which is the second most affected area in the country recorded 150 on Saturday which was followed by Kano and Gombe State where 124 and 60 cases were recorded respectively.

Other states includes Kaduna, 49; Ebonyi, 48; Plateau, 46; Akwa Ibom, 39; Niger, 37; Edo, 33; Katsina, 23; Rivers, 18; Taraba, 15; Nasarawa, 14; Ogun, 11; Delta, 9; Ekiti, 2 and Jigawa with two cases

With the new cases on Saturday, the total confirmed cases in the country now stands at 139,242, as the cases continues to rise across all states of the federation.

Yesterday 918 people were discharged from three areas in Lagos State, bringing total of discharged people in the country to 112,557. The discharge include 498 community recoveries in Lagos State, 64 in Kano State and 54 in Plateau State managed in line with guidelines.

However, NCDC reported 6 deaths making it 1,647 people to have been lost officially to the disease since the pandemic started in the country.
