Drug

 Drug has different meanings to different people and it meaning varies among different regions.

Drug as medicine means substance which is used for correcting adverse mental, physical and health conditions.
In this sense,it is used to correct any deviation from normal state of well-being.A substance used to treat an illness, relieve a symptom, or modify a chemical process in the body for a specific purpose.
In North America and many other place when not describe as medicine,it is know as illicit substances used to  alter the natural ways the body and mind work.It is used in order to alter the nervous system and the way the body works.
A substance, not necessarily for medical purposes and sometimes addictive, which affects the central nervous system.
Our focus will base on the latter definition and assumptions of what drug means.
   Drug are taken into the body in different form and ways,It is mostly taken orally and sniffing through nose.When it is swallowed,it is absorbed into the blood stream through the intestinal wall.
Drug like alcohol, barbiturates and sedative are taken orally,while Marijuana, nicotine and inhalants are inhaled through smoking which later enter the bloodstream through the lungs.
Some are injected to the bloodstream directly through the vein, heroine is a typical example.
The most common drug, cocaine,is sniffed which is absorbed by the mucous membrane to the bloodstream.
When any of these drugs is taken,it is carried to different parts of the body depending on purpose of the drug.
The effect of each depends on the many variables like potency,type,dose and purity.
The most commonly used drugs are:
Alcohol: Studies have it that alcohol is largely abused in Africa with Nigeria,Togo and many other west Africa countries as major consumers.
In Nigeria and togo, alcohol is used for worshipping the ancestors.
In these countries, hardly will any traditional ceremonies like marriages, funeral and naming take place without finding alcohol as refreshments.
It is used in Nigeria in mixture with various herbs to increase the efficacy of the herbs and in treatment of various ailments.
Because of its metabolism and slow rate of oxidation,alcohol has a long duration of action.
Its level in the blood is measure as "Blood-alcohol-level" (BAL).
At 0.05% ,there is lower alertness, relaxing of inhibitions, impaired judgement and usually sense of feeling good.
As the level increases,the judgement ability declines, reactions time slows,both sensory and motor capabilities are impaired.
Intoxication is reached at 0.20% ,stupor is reach at 0.30%, and death at 0.35%.
Prolong use of alcohol results in gastritis, haemorrhaging Anne inflammation of pancreas.It can also lead to chronic liver and kidney problems and impaired memory.It can also affect the baby of a pregnant consumer before and after delivery.
Inhalants:
In Nairobi,Kenya , big cities in Africa and countries in North America,it is common to find young people in the street sniffing inhalants such as glue.
This occurs in Africa mainly to keep hunger at bay and to increase work rate,and in North America to get high and to have sense of belonging.
Inhalants includes glue, gasoline, cleaning fluid etc,each of these compounds contains dangerous elements like volatile hydrocarbon that causes a strong ,short-lived euphoric highness.
It result to restlessness,lack of coordination, uncontrollable excitement, contusion,weak nervous system, delirium, inability to think and coma.
Continuous use of inhalant can result to brain, kidney,liver,blood contamination and nerve damage.
Stimulants:
These drugs type are used to induce the stimulation of central nervous system.
In addition to inhalants,they are used for alertness,reduce fatigue, enhance a person mood,increase work rate and euphoria.Example of stimulants is cocaine derived from coca plant.
Cocaine results in an intense, short-lived highness and few moments stimulation which is followed by depression.
Any form of inhalants result in high psychological dependence and addiction because of the body ability to develops tolerance for it.
Withdrawal can cause many symptoms such as cocaine blues,profound anguish, insomnia, agitation, headache and nausea.
Continuous use of stimulants can cause chronic health problems like respiratory failure,circulatory collapse and death.
Depressants:
  Depressants act as opposite of stimulants. They depress the central nervous system,usually use as pain killer or analgesic.
Their effect range from lethargy or dizziness to various levels of anaesthesia.
A tranquilizers have the same effect as barbiturates in addition to reduce anxiety,tension, pain,to produce drowsiness,change mood, euphoria and depress heart activities.
They are addictive,and they involve opium, codeine, heroine and excessive use of pain killers like tramadol.
Marijuana:
 Marijuana is very popular worldwide;from Africa to south America, North America except Canada, Oceanic and seldom in Asia.
Marijuana is prepared from canabis plant, and it is consumed mostly by smoking and rarely by mixing with foods and drinks.
The major proactive content in Marijuana is tetrahydrocannabinol or THC,which is concentrated in the resin. The potency of marijuana depends on how much of resin is present in the plants.
Grades of marijuana ranges from those that contains 2% to 5% of THC;sensimilla, contains about 8% of THC and hashish about 50% of THC.
When marijuana is inhaled,the THC instantly flows into the blood.
Marijuana users usually experience red eyes, lowered secretion of sex hormones impaired motor coordination and infertility.
Drug use,especially its abuse  is a big problems which should be tackled worldwide.
Apart from its damaging effects like cardiovascular, pulmonary, endocrine,and psychosocial malfunctioning on the consumer, drug is used as an excuse by some miscreants who claimed they were unconscious or tipsy when they commit some atrocities in which irreversible damages like murder or injuries has been done.
Drugs has degraded and killing many economies like Mexico, Venezuela,Kenya,south Africa and the likes.
