Covid-19: Nigeria's second wave lingers as 1,964 cases recorded on Thursday

The second wave of the deadly Coronavirus continue to bite hard in Nigeria as the country recorded almost 2 thousand on Thursday, January 21, 2021.


According to the country's centre for disease control, NCDC, 1,944 cases were discovered on Thursday across 23 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Lagos State remains the hotspot for the disease with 824 cases discovered there yesterday bringing the total cases in the area to 43,251.

The FCT accounted for 246 cases putting the total in the capital 15,256.

Other states for the day includes Plateau State, 166; Kaduna, 128; Ogun, 76; Nasarawa, 74; Anambra, 69; Edo, 50; Rivers, 45; Ondo, 44; Niger, 40; Oyo, 38; Adamawa, 35; Kano, 31; Akwa Ibom, 27; Gombe, 19; Kwara, 13; Ekiti, 12; Delta, 6; Kebbi, 6; Bauchi, 5; Ebonyi, 4; Osun and Zamfara with 3 and 1 cases respectively.

The total in the country is now 116,655 cases with death toll in the country staying 1,485 after 7 patients were lost to the virus on Thursday.

However, 1,310 patients were discharged on Thursday, having tested negative for the virus.

The country has been battling second wave of the virus with over a thousand discovered everyday in the past one week.
